Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, secured Gov. Tim Waltz as her vice presidential candidate for the 2024 presidential election. Together, they are running against Republican former President Donald Trump and Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio.

Who is Gov. Tim Waltz?

Tim Walz assumed office as Minnesota’s 41st governor in January 2019. He was re-elected in 2022 and is a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL). ​

He was born on April 6, 1964, in the small town of West Point, Nebraska. After graduating from high school in Butte, he joined the Army National Guard and served for 24 years, rising to the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

2019: Sworn in as the 41st Governor of Minnesota, commencing his tenure with a focus on healthcare, improving education, and improving infrastructure in the state.

2021: Worked on police reform measures. His focus has been on increasing accountability and rebuilding trust between law enforcement and communities.

2022: Re-elected, defeating Republican nominee Scott Jensen. In his second term, Walz continued to focus on issues such as education, healthcare, and climate change.
