Finally  The Vatican responds to Olympics  “Last Supper” Controversy

During the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday evening, Drag queens parodied Leonardo da Vinci’s rendition of the Last Supper, creating international outrage.

The segment showed a substitute setting with drag queens presiding over a banquet with a woman with a large silver headdress that resembling a halo, depicting Jesus Christ as in the painting.

The event’s creative director denied any reference of the scene to the painting. However, an Olympics spokesperson apologized to those offended.

The Vatican on Saturday (Aug 3) said that the performance showed a lack of “respect for others.”

“At a prestigious event where the whole world comes together to share common values, there should be no allusions ridiculing the religious convictions of many people. The freedom of expression, which is clearly not called into question here, is limited by respect for others,” the Vatican said.

It is also assumed that the scene shows Dionysus- the Greek god of festivities and wine. The idea was to have a grand pagan festival connected to the gods of Olympus.

The Last Supper holds immense importance and significance in art, theology, and cultural history.

The painting displays Jesus having meal with his  Apostle (disciple), declaring the bread his flesh and the wine his blood.   The Apostle is divided in four groups having three members in each group symbolizes four seasons and twelve signs of Zodiac.

The first group with Bartholomew, James Minor and Andrew represents season 'Spring'

The Second group shows Peter, Judas and John as season 'Summer'.

The third group shows Thomas, Philip and James in the centre as season 'Fall'.

The last group is of season 'Winter' having Matthew, Jude and Simon.

Finally In the center Jesus as the Sun controlling all seasons with Holy Trinity.
